With the Fourth of July coming on Monday and good weather predicted all weekend, it’s looking like a good time to get out and celebrate. Fourth of July is usually one of the bigger holidays around the Kenai Peninsula, with some of the year’s longest days and typically great weather to celebrate. In Kenai, the annual parade and festivities are scheduled to kick off on Monday at 11 a.m. The parade will follow its regular route along Bidarka and Main Streets and down the Kenai Spur Highway, according to Brett Perry with the Kenai Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Center.

A private island in Alaska is hitting the market for $20 million, according to Troy Dana of Fay Ranches, who shares the listing with Yvan Corbin of Real Broker. The roughly 44-acre property is located in the Kenai Peninsula Borough in the southwestern part of the state, about 21 miles from the city of Homer and about 8 miles outside the small city of Seldovia, Mr. Dana said.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game issued several emergency orders this week. Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon and waters of the Homer City dock will be open for snagging beginning June 29 through Friday, July 1 (KS-7-38-22). But all sport fishing in the Ninilchik River (2-KS-7-29-22), Deep Creek and the Anchor River (2-KS-7-24-22) will be closed through July 15.

Passage Island, 22 nautical miles southwest of the Homer Spit, is for sale by its Washington state owner. The site of a former fox farm for the fur trade, and later a mink ranch in the early 1900s, the island is about 44 acres with nearly 7,000 feet of water frontage. It is sometimes 56 acres, when the tide is out, and is accessible by floatplane, boat, or helicopter at low tide.
