Obituary of Mary Jo DiNardo

Mary Jo DiNardo, age 96, passed away June 14 at her home for the past 12 years at Presbyterian Village in Fort Scott. Mary Jo was born January 9, 1925, to Myrle and Wilma Gunsaullus in Fort Scott, Kansas. She graduated from Fort Scott High School with the Class of 1943. She married James V. DiNardo on January 15, 1946, after meeting at the Tower Ballroom in Pittsburg when he was stationed at Camp Crowder. Together they had five children. She worked at Citizens National Bank for over 20 years.

Hensley headed to National Junior High Finals Rodeo

Jace Hensley of Paola is headed to Des Moines, Iowa, to represent Paola Middle School and the state of Kansas at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo. Hensley is the Kansas Junior High School Rodeo Association’s Bull Riding Champion, Reserve Champion Saddle Bronc and Reserve Champion Bare Back for 2021.

Lees help others with new tow business and beef donations

Scott and Krista Lee of Miami Purebred Herefords continue to find ways to help people from their 50-acre family farm near Fontana. Last year, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lees donated about 600 pounds of their award-winning ground beef to the Harvesters distribution program at Cross Point Church.

Louisburg fishing derby set for June 19

LOUISBURG — Anglers under age 16 will want to grab their fishing pole and head to Louisburg City Lake for the 25th annual Louisburg Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 19. Registration opens at 7 a.m., and the derby starts at 8 a.m. Fishing wraps up at 10 a.m. Organizers said the event will happen rain or shine. The lake is located on the south end of the community at Ron Weers Park on Metcalf Road.

Freeman Health System to hold back-to-school vaccine clinic

Freeman Health System will hold a back-to-school vaccine clinic next month to make sure students are protected when they return to class rooms this fall. The drive-thru clinic will take place from 2 pm – 6 pm July 13, where the first dose of the vaccine will be administered; the second dose will be administered from 2 pm to 6 pm Wednesday, August 11.
