Idaho Falls man sentenced for the murder of his adoptive father

IDAHO FALLS – A local man who murdered his adoptive father will serve at least 27 years in prison. Westley Jonathon Hightower, 19, was sentenced Friday to 27 years fixed and 40 years indeterminate, meaning Hightower could potentially serve 67 years behind bars. He will be eligible for parole in 2049.

IDAHO FALLS – A rally was held in Idaho Falls to protest the U.S. Supreme Court decision on Friday, June 24, that officially overturned Roe. V. Wade. The rally began at the Bonneville County Courthouse where several speakers spoke to the crowd. The speakers included Miranda Marquit, a Democratic candidate for the Idaho House of Representatives, David Roth, a Democratic nominee to the U.S. Senate, David Adler, president of The Alturas Institute, and Wendy Norman, a Rigby first-grade teacher and a candidate for U.S. Congress.

3 People Die in Crash

Idaho State Police is investigating a vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 8:23 p.m., on June 23, 2022 at the intersection of S 1050 W and SH39 in Bingham County. A 22-year-old man from Blackfoot was driving a 2017 Ford F350 eastbound on SH39. He failed to yield to stopped traffic ahead and struck a 1982 Honda motorcycle, driven by a 24-year-old man from Blackfoot. The Ford traveled further east and struck a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica, driven by an 18-year-old man from Blackfoot, and as well as a 2015 Ram 2500 pulling a 1999 Circle J Trailer, driven by a 65-year-old woman, from Aberdeen.

Driver arrested for aggravated DUI after hitting pedestrian

Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies and Idaho Falls Fire responded to the intersection of 1st St. and Nassau Dr. just before 8 p.m. Wednesday to a reported vehicle versus pedestrian crash. Deputies arrived finding a vehicle, driven by 32-year-old Leana Irma Rodriguez, had left the roadway and struck a 14 year old pedestrian. The pedestrian suffered a broken arm and other minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. In talking with Ms. Rodriguez, Deputies observed signs of impairment and conducted field sobriety testing on scene.Ms. Rodriguez denied using alcohol before driving, however the results of breath testing on scene indicated a level just over 1.5 times the legal limit. Ms. Rodriguez was placed under arrest and transported to the Bonneville County Jail where she was booked for Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, a Felony. Deputies are continuing to investigate the crash and no further information is available.

Blackfoot park bathrooms will be locked overnight after vandals destroy toilet, deface stalls

BLACKFOOT — Spray paint vandalism and the destruction of a toilet have caused the city of Blackfoot to lock up public city park bathrooms during the night. “The spray paint, the markers, or pushing stuff over or leaving debris in the bathrooms has been pretty common. But the breaking of the toilet and ripping the stall walls down and different things like that —- that’s a new level right there,” said Greg Austin, public information officer for the city of Blackfoot.
