North Dakota brewery holds tasting test in Bowman

A rhombus may have been something that spins round and round to the Greeks, but in North Dakota it is a brewery located next to the Red River in Grand Forks. The brewery came to Bowman Thursday offering people a chance to sample some of their best beers in a conference room in the Bowman Lodge and Conference Center next to the Grazers Restaurant.

2020 Community Challenge Project Update

In 2020, Brosz Engineering was announced as the winner of the first ever Community Challenge put on by Bowman County Development Corporation! This project was submitted and won the community vote. During the plan development for this project, Brosz Engineering was approached by the Bowman Park & Rec Department about an opportunity to combine their Splash Path project with another project also planned at Rotary Park. The School of Promise has plans to install a new playground at Rotary Park designed for children in the 1 to 5 year age range. Combining a “dry” playground area with a “wet” playground area is becoming a common theme in recreational areas throughout the Unites States.

Local bank plans lunch celebration Thursday

Dakota Community Bank is going to take a big lunch break – of a sort. The bank will be holding a customer appreciation lunch from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in front of its downtown Bowman branch. The customer appreciation lunch will be serving up brats, chips, watermelons and refreshments. There will also be watermelon-flavored cookies. The celebration is for everybody, according to a spokeswoman. The customer appreciation event is done annually, she added.

Iris Adelle Idler, 87

Iris Idler was born on March 25, 1934, in Rhame, North Dakota to Everett and Aleda Hjelm Ludlum. She grew up in Rhame and graduated from Rhame High School in 1951. On November 15, 1952, she and Alvin Idler were married at the First Lutheran Church in Rhame. Following their marriage, they owned and operated an auto mechanic shop until it was lost to a fire. In 1959 they moved to Okabena, MN where Iris was the school secretary. Over the year she and Alvin made their home in MN, ND, and MT. Iris worked in several school districts as the school secretary. She retired in 1985. Following their retirement they manage an apartment complex in Seattle, WA for 4 years. They then spent the next 5 years traveling the western United States in a 5th wheel camper. They settled in Williston, ND and sold Forestburg Watermelons in the fall for several years. In 2010 they moved to Slayton to be near their daughter, Rita. Alvin passed away on October 20, 2012. In 2016 Iris became a resident of the Slayton Rehabilitation and Health Care Center until it closed, and she moved to the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda. Iris passed away there on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at the age of 87. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton and was active in Circle. She also was a member of PEO. Iris enjoyed crafts of all kinds, reading and crossword puzzles.
