August a big month for drugs seized on Arizona’s southern border so far

PHOENIX — The Port of Entry in Nogales has seen a big spike in drugs crossing the border in August – including meth, heroin and, in particular, fentanyl pills. They’ve been concealed in hidden car compartments, stashed in spare tires and even found in the frame of a medical walker.

An Arizona police chief said there is currently "no border" as illegal immigrants and drugs continue to flood into his community. Nogales Police Chief Roy Bermudez joined "America's Newsroom" Tuesday to address the surge of fentanyl smuggling that has created a "pandemic" and the operations in his town to stop the drugs from endangering the lives of his citizens.

State issues mercury warning for some fish caught in Patagonia Lake

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality issued a consumption advisory about Flathead Catfish caught in Patagonia Lake due to elevated mercury levels. The state says adults should limit their consumption of the fish to 2.5 ounces per week and children under 12 should limit their consumption to two ounces a week. Those weights are before cooking.
