UPDATE: Bomb squad responding to suspicious device found in Rochester

(ABC 6 News) - UPDATE: 9:40 p.m. 6/28/22 - Rochester police said a person found a device on a bike path by Crossroads Drive in Rochester Tuesday evening. The person put the device in their vehicle and drove it to the Rochester Government Center. Multiple agencies responded along with an Olmsted County bomb sniffing dog responded to the scene.

Distracted Driver Gets Jail Time for Fatal Crash on U.S. 52 in St. Paul

A 23-year-old woman who rear-ended a stopped automobile on U.S. 52 in St. Paul while speeding and perhaps inattentive, setting off a series of collisions that left one man dead, was given a 123-day prison term on Monday. Five years of probation and a five-year jail term with a stay of execution are part of the arrangement.

Man Caught Cutting Catalytic Converter From Vehicle In Rochester

Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A would-be catalytic converter thief was caught in the act at a Rochester business Monday. Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Lee Rossman says an employee arrived at the business in the 3800 block of N. Broadway around 7:00 am and heard the sound of a saw coming from underneath a vehicle.

Man flees attempted catalytic converter theft, hides in woods

(ABC 6 News) - An Owatonna man surrendered to local law enforcement after fleeing an attempted catalytic converter theft. At about 6:58 a.m. Monday, June 27, an employee in the 3800 block of Broadway Avenue North called the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office about the sound of a saw coming from underneath a vehicle.

Rochester Man Facing Drug, Weapons Charges

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester man is facing charges for felony drug possession and a weapons violation after authorities executed a search warrant at his home. 40-year-old Timothy Loftus was arraigned in Olmsted County Court on Monday. The criminal complaint states law enforcement recovered a loaded semi-automatic 9mm handgun that police determined to be stolen out of Dodge County. Officers also discovered over 26 grams of a substance that presumptively tested positive methamphetamine during the search on June 23.

Prison inmate sentenced for dealing meth from behind bars

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- An inmate serving time for dealing methamphetamine was convicted was sentenced Monday to an additional 29 years behind bars for running a drug trafficking operation from behind bars.Marco Antonio Avila, 37, was previously sentenced in 2018 to 26 years in prison for distributing large quantities of meth in the Rochester area. He was incarcerated in Victorville, California.Authorities say Avila continued his operations in prison by recruiting and directing at least one person to purchase meth from a Mexico-based drug supplier to distribute to customers throughout southern Minnesota. A search discovered 30 separate 1-pound packages of meth inside a Corvette stored in a Woodbury storage garage.Avila pleaded guilty in March to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. 

Intruder Wakes Downtown Rochester Hotel Guests

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A woman staying at a downtown Rochester hotel was awakened around 1 a.m. last Wednesday by a man who was standing over her and touching her leg. The woman screamed, her husband woke up and the man fled. The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Marques Tate of St. Paul. The criminal complaint states Tate entered the room and took the couple's phones, financial cards and cash.

Bomb scare forces temporary closure of Olmsted County Government Center

ROCHESTER, Minn. - A bomb scare led local law enforcement to close the Olmsted County Government Center temporarily Tuesday night. The Rochester Police Department says around 8:30 P.M., a woman dropped off a suspicious device at the government center, which was found by a man she knew on a bike path in Southwest Rochester three hours earlier. The device is described to have been wrapped in black electrical tape and stuffed inside a shoe, though its exact contents have yet to be determined.

Incarcerated Rochester Area Drug Trafficker Draws Longer Sentence

St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester area drug trafficker’s prison sentence has been extended by nearly 30 years. U.S. Attorney Andrew Luger announced 37-year-old Marco Avila has been sentenced to an additional 29 years in prison for orchestrating a methamphetamine trafficking operation from prison. From December of 2019 through at least February of 2020, Avila recruited at least one co-conspirator to buy large amounts of meth from a supplier in Mexico and distribute it throughout southern Minnesota, according to a statement from Luger.

Teenage Driver Injured in Crash Near St. Charles

St. Charles, MN (KROC-AM News) - The State Patrol has released only limited information on a crash yesterday that injured a teenager. The 17-year-old boy was driving a car south on Highway 74 in Winona County when the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into the ditch. Thought State Patrol reported the crash occurred around 4 PM near the intersection with Winona County Road 39 about 2 miles north of St. Charles.
