If you're stumped and don't know what to do for July 4th Weekend--surprise your sweetheart with a road trip! Just a quick 4.5-hour drive away lies this amazing cabin getaway-nestled among trees with a hot tub, cozy fireplace, gas grill, and tons of privacy-but close enough to the Casino and places to eat. I'm talking about Winterfell Cabin in the upper Canyon neighborhood in Ruidoso, New Mexico. You could knock off work around noon next Friday, and by dinner time be in your cabin all cozy for the 4-day weekend. Here are just a few shots of what awaits you at the end of the road:

RUIDOSO, N.M. — Heavy rains hit the Ruidoso, New Mexico, on Wednesday causing some flash flooding issues. A viewer sent sister station KOAT a video of a stream in the Ruidoso area rise and begin to flood in with the heavy rainfall. The water was close to some homes in the area.

Just in time for the upcoming holiday weekend, the Lincoln National Forest has reopened to the public as of 8:00 AM on Friday, June 24th. According to the Village of Ruidoso website, “All three national forest districts received substantial rain over the past two weeks, which significantly lowered fire danger. More rain is forecasted over the coming weeks for the forest, which covers areas in southeastern New Mexico around Carrizozo, Capitan, Ruidoso, Cloudcroft, and Carlsbad. Forest lands, roads, trails, recreation sites, and campgrounds will again be open to visitors.”

RUIDOSO, N.M. — Heavy rains hit the Ruidoso area on Wednesday causing some flash flooding issues. A viewer sent us this video of a stream in the Ruidoso area rise and begin to flood in with the heavy rainfall. The water was close to some homes in the area.

The fire in Ruidoso brought a situation to light that has been plaguing the small mountain town for quite some time: there is an affordable housing issue, and, for a long time, some residents have been concerned that providing more housing for the workforce would lead to higher crime rates, but that fear is unsubstantiated.

The rains have already had an impact on burn scars near Ruidoso. Lincoln County Sheriff Michael Wood documented this rain and soot mixture along Eagle Creek Canyon Road on Monday while checking areas affected by the Nogal and McBride fires.
