City approves cost increase in PVC pipe

HURON — The Huron City Commission approved a significant change order for the wastewater treatment plant project as part of its proceedings Monday evening. City engineer Brett Runge presented the change order to Gridor Construction, Inc. for an increase of $104,864 to the commission with the explanation that it was for the increasing cost of PVC pipe for the project.

Huron Junior Legion fifth in Yankton tourney

YANKTON – The Huron Junior Legion had an excellent weekend at the Daryl Bernard Classic in Yankton, coming away with three victories and one loss, earning fifth place. On Friday, Huron opened the tournament against the Sioux Falls Post 911 Chargers with a big victory, an 18-2 run-rule win in four innings.

Post 7 splits with Sioux Falls West

SIOUX FALLS – Huron’s Post 7 Legion team hit the road to Sioux Falls and battled the Post 15 West team, coming away with a split Thursday night, losing the first game 7-6 before taking the nightcap by the score of 11-5. In the first game, the Tigers struck first, scoring three runs in the top of the third inning, and Huron held a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning when the home team plated four runs to take the lead.

Thursday incident in Loomis under investigation

Davison County Sheriff’s Office personnel and other federal, state, and local law enforcement officers were on the scene of an incident in Loomis on Thursday. Just before noon, a deputy sheriff with the Davison County Sheriff’s Office found a sealed pressure cooker in the road in front of a house in Loomis. The pressure cooker had been modified. Due to a potentially dangerous situation, all entrances to Loomis were blocked off. Several attempts were made to contact the owner of the residence, who was in the house, but refused to speak with law enforcement. A bomb squad was sent to the scene and was able to remove the device. A controlled explosion was utilized to open the pressure cooker. Concerning contents were found inside the device. No arrests have yet been made. The incident remains under investigation.
