Charles City Fourth of July Fireworks Relocated

For the second year in a row, the annual Fourth of July Fireworks Show in Charles City will be relocated to the southern edge of town on Sunday, July 4th. According to a media release, Chamber of Commerce Director Mark Wicks cited construction work at the Floyd County Courthouse as well as roadwork on Highway 18/Brantingham Street as factors prompting the Charles City Public Safety Department to request the fireworks show not be held downtown this year. With traffic currently restricted to two lanes on the Brantingham Bridge and the Main Street Bridge which would be closed for the fireworks shoot, there are concerns about traffic congestion and the ability to get emergency vehicles through if needed.

Driver of Truck That Struck, Killed Charles City Bicyclist Pleads Not Guilty

A Clarksville man charged with homicide by vehicle-reckless driving in the death of a Charles City bicyclist last summer is pleading not guilty. In May, law enforcement identified 44-year-old Colby Elliot as the driver of the truck that struck and killed 24-year-old Ellen Bengston while she was riding her bike south of Charles City shortly after 7:30 p.m. on the night of August 2nd, 2020.

Eye Clinic with Locations Across Iowa Sufferers Massive Data Breach

Wolfe Eye Clinic, which has many Eastern and NE Iowa locations, has suffered a rather significant data breach. According to a report from KWWL and a press release from Wolfe Eye Clinic, both current and former patients' private information may have fallen into the hands of hackers. While the clinic became aware of the breach on May 28, it actually appears it began on February 8. The clinic claims the hackers held the systems belonging to Wolfe Eye Clinic hostage demanding a ransom, but the company did not pay the hackers.

Woman sentenced for death of teen in northeast Iowa

WEST UNION, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa woman who hit a teenager on a moped and left him to die in 2018 has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison. Kelli Jo Michael, a former Cedar Falls resident, pleaded guilty Monday to homicide by vehicle. Authorities said Michael was texting while driving on Highway 150 south of Fayette when she struck a moped driven by 14-year-old Kaiden Estling of Maynard in June 2018. She then fled the scene.

CHARLES CITY, Iowa – A man accused of killing a Floyd County bicyclist is pleading not guilty. Colby William Elliott, 44 of Clarksville, is charged with homicide by vehicle-reckless driving. Law enforcement says Elliott was the driver of the pickup truck that hit and killed Ellen Bengston, 24, on August 2, 2020.
