APD Wins 2022 IACP Leadership in Victim Services Award

The City of Alliance is proud to announce the Alliance Police Department has won the 2022 Leadership in Victim Services Award from the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). APD will be recognized as an exemplary form of leadership in the policing profession during the IACP Annual Awards Banquet. The Alliance Police Department will receive complimentary travel accommodations, a full registration for the conference, and complimentary tickets to the IACP Annual Awards Banquet and a one-year membership to the IACP.

Eagle, Schmidt Foundation donate $15k to Alliance Recreation Center

Eagle Radio in Alliance/Chadron and the Robert E. and Patricia Schmidt Foundation donated $15,000 to the Alliance Recreation Center (ARC) on Aug. 8. Bob Schmidt, founder and original owner of Eagle Communications, through the Schmidt Foundation, left a legacy for Eagle employee-owners and communities. Bob and his wife Pat believed in giving back to the communities in which they did business, including all media markets across the Eagle footprint in Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri. Bob and Pat valued the areas of health care, economic development, the arts and education. The Schmidt Foundation has been honored to give back to communities; everything from college scholarships to local donations, healthcare awareness and equipment, and funding for local small businesses in the area.

AHS Activities Hall of Fame to induct 5 new members in 2022

Five new members will be inducted this fall, into the Alliance High School Activities Hall of Fame. The selection committee meets once a year to review and vote on new members. In order for a nominee to be inducted, they must receive at least a 75% majority vote from the selection committee. This year the committee reviewed 40 nominees, which included 22 State Champions or 1st Team All-State selections, 21 different individuals received at least one vote from committee members. After several rounds of discussion and voting, the committee selected the following for induction into this years class.

Paul D. Zysset (1937 - 2022)

Paul D. Zysset, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 8, 2022 at the Hemingford Community Care Center. Paul was born at home in rural Frontier County, Nebraska on October 17, 1937 to Carl C. and Aurie V. (Buker) Zysset. He was the fourth of eight children. He started grade school in a rural school south of Eustis and completed grade school at Hilltop District across from the home place. Paul attended high school at the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture, graduating in 1955.

United Way to host PDGA Sanctioned Disc Golf Tournament at Rolling Prairie Course

Alliance- The DISCover United Way Disc Golf Tournament is set for Saturday, August 13 at the Rolling Prairie Course at Laing Lake in Alliance. The Pro Disc Golf Association (PDGA) C-Tier sanctioned tournament is open to both professionals and amateurs with $1000 added cash payout in the pro division. Disc golfers of all ages and abilities are welcome to play with divisions from juniors to professional. Players can register at dgscene.com/UW22. Amateurs will receive a player’s pack of 1 custom hot stamped disc at check-in on the day of the tournament.

Ronald 'Ron' LeRoy Bottrell (1946 - 2022)

Ronald “Ron” LeRoy Bottrell was called home peacefully on August 2nd, 2022, at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance, Nebraska. His funeral service will be held at 10am on Friday, August 5, 2022, at Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff with Pastor Rick Reisig officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Visitation will be Friday from 9-10am at the funeral home. Services will be livestreamed on Bridgman Funeral Home Facebook Page. A lunch will be held at The Scottsbluff YMCA Trails Camp Retreat Center 1918 Beltline Highway West at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Bridgman Funeral Home, 2104 Broadway Scottsbluff NE 69361, for designation at a further date.
