Alternative health providers gather at Harrod Expo

HARROD — Alternative health vendors and activity leaders gathered Saturday at the Harrod Event Center for the Voices of Prosperity Discover Wellness Expo. Visitors tasted food and smoothie samples as they explored the more than 31 Allen County and Auglaize County community businesses owners’ tables which represented different aspects of wellness. These included vendors like massage therapists, Reiki practitioners, acupuncturists, and doulas, who work alongside nurse midwives to provide emotional support during childbirth. Depending on the vendor, they offered items for sale, gift cards, and even onsite services.

Woman in court on aggravated burglary charges

LIMA — Allen County Common Pleas Court Judge Terri Kohlrieser on Thursday accepted into evidence a video of an interview conducted by Lima Police Detective Todd Jennings with Madison Coulter, a 21-year-old Lima resident charged with two counts of aggravated burglary for an incident that left one victim with minor knife wounds.

Celebrate You breaks the stigma of mental illness

Lima, OH (WLIO) - A Celebration in downtown Lima helps bring home the message that they are not alone. The Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Allen, Auglaize, and Hardin Counties held their 2nd Celebrate You event at the Vibe Coffeehouse. The event was created to let people know it is OK if you are not feeling o-k mentally, especially if you are member of the African American or LGBTQ+ communities. There was music, poems, painting all for people to express themselves. The pandemic has put a lot of strain on people emotionally and mentally, but thanks to this celebration, they know they are not alone.

Roses and Thorns

The roses found a way to sprout this week despite some muggy conditions and plenty of thorny issues. Rose: To the registered Republicans who came out in force on Election Day to vote in their primaries. In Allen County, 68.5% of registered Republicans cast their ballots in the special election that chose Susan Manchester as the next state representative. That number was 43.8% in Putnam County in the race that selected Roy Klopfenstein for the November general election. Auglaize County had the improbable happen, with more than 100% of Republicans turning out, thanks to 400 additional voters registering with the GOP. We’re always glad to see people participate in the process.

Allen County reports first probable monkeypox case

LIMA — Allen County Public Health has identified the county’s first probable case of monkeypox, the health department reported Friday. There have been 38 cases of monkeypox in Ohio thus far, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which has identified 7,100 cases of the rare disease in the U.S. this year.
