Sangamon County coroner: Man dead after crash on I-72

SANGAMON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Sangamon County coroner said a man died after a crash early Thursday morning in Springfield. It was on I-72 between Buffalo and Lanesville. Coroner Jim Allmon said the driver, a 20-year-old man, was found dead at the scene. Officers are investigating how the crash happened.

Former Greene County Kroger Locations Converting Into Dollar Generals

What’s old is new again in Greene County. Two locations that formerly housed Kroger grocery stores are getting a face lift. The White Hall and Carrollton Kroger locations closed last Spring. With the closing of the stores and the loss of Triple J Meats in Roodhouse; there is just two grocery stores in the county – Market on Main in Carrollton which opened in November, and Meehan’s IGA in Greenfield.

Fire Damages Commercial/Residential Building In Springfield; No One Hurt

No one is hurt after a fire that heavily damaged a building housing the Little World International Food Market on South MacArthur in Springfield. The fire broke out Wednesday afternoon on the second story of the combined commercial and residential building. Two people got out of the building before firefighters arrived, but a language barrier made it difficult for first responders to determine if others will still inside. Even as crews battled the flames, both levels of the building were searched and no other occupants were found. Three dozen firefighters responded to the scene and contained the fire to the second story.

UPDATE: Victim Identified; Man Killed In Early Morning Crash On I-72

One man is dead after an early-morning crash Thursday on Interstate 72 east of Springfield. Coroner Jim Allmon says 20-year-old Lucas Otto of Arthur was the only occupant of a car that collided with another vehicle on eastbound I-72 at mile marker 117, three miles east of the Buffalo exit. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 1:30 Thursday morning.

Repairs are planned for the Illinois State Fairgrounds

An estimated $58 million in improvements to the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield are on tap over the next year. Renovations to the Multi-Purpose Arena are underway. Structural improvements were made. Additional work will include repairing sidewalks, walls, steps and the electrical system. A new canopy will be installed and retaining walls will be rebuilt at a cost of $8.6 million.
