Austin teen turns himself in after recent vandalism reports

(ABC 6 NEWS) - A 17-year-old from Austin turned himself following a string of graffiti incidents was reported around Austin. The Austin Police Department reports that the teen, with a family member, confessed to spray painting around 15 businesses and public property properties in town after seeing other graffiti around Austin. The vandalism took place on June 6 around midnight.

Mankato woman injured in Freeborn County crash

ALBERT LEA TOWNSHIP, Minn. – A single-vehicle crash in Freeborn County Thursday morning sends one person to the hospital. It happened around 9:18 am at mile marker 11 on Interstate 35. The Minnesota State Patrol says Taylor Elizabeth Lawson, 26 of Mankato, was driving north when he lost control and hit the guardrail. Lawson was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea for treatment of what is described as a non-life threatening injury.

(ABC 6 News) - Albert Lea Fire Rescue is actively responding to a gas leak Thursday morning at the 1600 block of Bridge Avenue. According to the Albert Lea Police Department, an "8" Main struck causing gas leak. Odors may be identified within the affected area around 1609 Bridge Ave (Richway, Keystone, Glenview, Garfield)." The issue is expected to be resolved by early afternoon.

Austin man charged with selling heroin to police informant

Montana Richard Hinchley, 25, of Austin has been charged with felony third-degree drugs – sale of a narcotic. According to the court complaint, a narcotics detective met with two CRIs on Aug. 7 about purchasing heroin from a female drug dealer. The CRIs and their vehicle were searched and they were provided with buy money and an audio transmitter. They were then monitored as they drove to a residence in the 700 block of Fifth Avenue Northwest to meet with the dealer. The detective was parked nearby and saw the dealer enter the CRIs’ vehicle. She then had the CRIs take her to the Austin residence of a relative. She entered the apartment and did not return.

Last week, police reported that Bendixen Jewelry and International Word Fellowship Church had been vandalized with graffiti by an unknown suspect.
