House fire took "everything" from single father and children, say relatives seeking help finding fresh start for family

AUSTIN, Minn. - Smoke and flames were rising from a home in Austin Thursday, as first responders battled a residential fire in the Northeast part of the city. Crews were called a house on the 600 block of 11th St NE around 4:30 P.M., with Austin Fire, Austin PD, and Brownsdale Fire all responding to the scene. Officials tell KIMT all occupants were able to evacuate safely before firefighters knocked down the blaze.

Fire Chief: House fire started after child lit clothes on fire

(ABC 6 News) - Austin Fire Chief Jim McCoy said a house fire Thursday afternoon started after a child lit clothing on fire in one of the bedrooms. Chief McCoy said at the time of the fire there were five children and one adult inside but all were outside when crews arrived.

Northeast Austin home damaged in Thursday afternoon blaze

No injuries were reported after a Northeast Austin home was damaged in a Thursday afternoon fire. According to Austin Fire Chief Jim McCoy, Austin firefighters were called at about 4:30 p.m. on Thursday on a report of a fire at 602 11th St. NE. When they arrived, firefighters observed smoke and fire spewing for the single-family home.

Austin garage considered total loss following weekend fire

(ABC 6 News) - A garage in Austin is a total loss after a fire on Sunday. According to the Austin Police Department, officers were sent to a home on 600 block of 12th Street NE regarding a garage fire. The Austin Fire Department responded to the scene and all occupants had cleared the home as well as the neighbor.

Garage at northeast Austin residence destroyed by fire Sunday

A garage at a northeast Austin residence is being considered a total loss after a fire Sunday. Austin Police officers were dispatched to a residence on the 600 block of 12th St. NE Sunday in regards to a garage fire. The Austin Fire Department responded to the scene to extinguish the blaze, and Austin Police Captain Todd Clennon reported that the occupants of the nearby house were evacuated, as well as the residents of a neighboring house. Clennon stated that the garage is being considered a total loss, and a 2007 Pontiac G6 housed in the garage was also destroyed in the fire.

Austin garage fire under investigation

The cause of a Sunday garage fire in Northeast Austin is currently under investigation. According to Austin Police Capt. Todd Clennon, Austin Fire and Police were dispatched to a garage fire at about 1:20 a.m. on Sunday in the 600 block of 12th Street Northeast. The home’s occupants and the occupants of a neighboring house were cleared from their residences.

A motorcycle rider from Albert Lea was injured in an accident on U.S. Highway 218 in Austin Saturday evening. The Minnesota State Patrol reported that a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle being driven by 60-year old Brooks Daniel Fischer of Albert Lea was southbound on Highway 218 at approximately 6:17 p.m. Saturday evening when he lost control and laid the bike down on the road near the intersection with 10th Drive Southeast.

An accident between a semi and a pickup in rural Olmsted County Friday morning sent one person to the hospital.
