TBI: Two former Fentress Co. deputies indicted after one sells department AR-15 and other uses county funds for fuel

A former Fentress County Sheriff's Office deputy is charged with official misconduct after authorities say he sold his agency-issued AR-15 rifle for personal gain. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said a grand jury indicted Derek C. Richards, 42, last week. He turned himself in Thursday and was booked into the Fentress County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

Former Deputy Indicted, Accused of Misconduct

FENTRESS COUNTY – An investigation by special agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has resulted in the indictment of a former Fentress County deputy. In October 2020, at the request of 8th District Attorney General Jared Effler, TBI agents began investigating Derek Cull Richards (DOB 12/29/78) after the Fentress County Sheriff’s Department discovered possible misconduct. During the course of the investigation, agents determined that Richards, while serving as a deputy, sold his agency issued AR-15 rifle for personal gain. Investigators were able to track down and recover the weapon. Richards is no longer employed by the Fentress County Sheriff’s Department.

Russell Springs Police make two arrests on Thursday

Russell Springs Police made two arrests Thursday evening. Patricia Norris, age 39, was arrested and charged with trafficking in more than two grams of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and being a persistent felony offender. Norris was arrested by officer Hayden Phillips and lodged in the Russell County Detention Center.

(JAMESTOWN, TN) According to Jamestown gas price data, you could be saving up to $0.09 per gallon on gas. On Saturday the cheapest gallon of unleaded regular in the area was at Murphy USA at 523 E Central Ave. Regular there was listed at $2.85 per gallon Wednesday, compared to $2.94 at Marathon at 500 Us-127, which GasBuddy clocked as the most expensive station in the area.
