Secret Spots – Irrigation Ales

We made the trip to Courtland, KS to meet new friends at Irrigation Ales and learn about the unique irrigation system in that region of Kansas. Irrigation Ales is a rural brewery featuring six taps of their own handcrafted beers. They take pride in their unique agricultural ingenuity with a brewhouse made from retrofitted dairy tanks from the county. In-house, there are also Kansas wines offered from Smoky Hill or Liquid Art and Dani & Dave ciders as well as non-alcoholic options such as homemade root beer and Morning Light Kombucha.

FATAL ACCIDENT NEAR JAMESTOWN

An accident Thursday afternoon on Kansas highway K-28 west of Jamestown claimed the life of an Arkansas woman. Vickie Fenner, 66, of Conway, Arkansas, was driving a Volvo semi truck and towing a full grain trailer. Fenner was traveling east on K-28, about five miles west of Jamestown, when her vehicle overturned and came to rest in a ditch.

Trevor Cox, field agronomist, with Central Valley Ag Co-op in Clay Center, reported that harvest began in their area on June 23. Moisture is consistent at 12 percent, but yields are all over the board. Some of the low ground froze and saw yields in the 20 and 30 bushel per acre range, but some of the better wheat is yielding in the 50s and 60s.
