EMPORIA, Kan. (KWCH) - Update: Emporia police said a 12-year-old boy reported missing Friday afternoon has been located and is safe. The Emporia Police Department asks for the public’s help in the search for a 12-year-old boy reported missing about 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 24. Police said Kreitzer is autistic, but high functioning.

Formal charges are pending in Osage County after a law enforcement incident with a man said to be “in crisis” this week. Osage City Police Chief Fred Nech says an officer responded to a disturbance call in the 500 block of North 12th shortly before 8 pm Wednesday. The officer tried to calm the situation, but the man allegedly grabbed a knife — forcing the officer to try to restrain the man from harming himself and the officer. Nech says the officer used his Taser after initial efforts failed.

The Emporia Police Department is seeking assistance in locating a missing child. Twelve-year-old Conner Kreitzer has been missing since 12:30 p.m. Friday. He is 5-feet six-inches taller now weighs approximately 220 pounds. He is autistic and highly functioning. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with “Fast and Furious”...

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church is calling all car lovers and collectors for the second annual Rod’n for JC Vehicle Show this Sunday. The event is open to the public and Pastor Kent Happel says they are accepting vehicle entries of any and all kinds including classic cars, motorcycles and even semis. Happel says the church is hoping to repeat, or even exceed, the success the inaugural event saw last year.

With ten days to go before the Fourth of July, Emporia’s fireworks sales and discharge period is about set to begin. The sales and discharge period gets underway Monday at 10 am according to Emporia Fire Marshall Reason Bradford. During an appearance on KVOE’s Morning Show recently, Bradford stated there are no real changes to the period from years past.

Safe Kids Emporia has its first child seat safety check lane of the season this weekend. Activities will be from 9 am to 1 pm at Emporia Fire Station 2, 15th and Industrial. Parents and guardians are asked to bring their primary vehicles, their car seats and — of course — their children for inspections and best practice instructions.

In the spring of 2022, Newman Regional Health says volunteers hosted District 1 attendees from seven other hospitals in the area at the Anderson Building. For nearly a decade, the National Teachers Hall of Fame has seen tremendous expansion both within its ranks but also its notoriety on a national level. Much of the credit for that expansion goes to the hall of fame’s retiring executive director Carol Strickland. Strickland, a career classroom teacher and 2003 hall of fame inductee, stepped into the director’s position in 2013 replacing former director Phil Bennett.

The David Traylor Zoo is welcoming all children and families to its annual Friends of the Zoo open house event this weekend.
