JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) - Monday the Jackson YMCA announced it has obtained an additional $3 million in funding in its campaign for a new downtown building. For the past year, YMCA leaders worked alongside local and national leaders such as Sen. Debbi Stabenow, to secure federal funding. The $3 million puts the YMCA over its original $25 million goal. The federal funding for the Jackson location is among the largest to be awarded to a YMCA.

Tecumseh, MI – Tecumseh Public Schools is going back to the community to learn more about why their recent bond renewal proposal did not pass. Recently, school board members voted to reintroduce it on the November 8th, 2022 ballot. The board also voted to allow the current 7.2 mills to decrease by 3.6 mills, which officially takes place on June 30th. The District had an option to refund the current bonds and extend the full 7.2 mills for one more year, but declined.

JACKSON, MI – Evon Beavers lost her job during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020, but she wasn’t going to let that bring her down. Beavers was a single mom of four, living on the southside of Jackson. She was forced to make a change in her life after she lost her job and hosted a garage sale, selling clothes, jewelry and almost anything she loved. The sight killed her to see, Beavers said.

Napoleon High School swept a rare Sunday doubleheader at Columbia Central, 3-2 and 6-4. Kyler Reason earned the win in relief in the eighth inning and also had two hits at the plate. Hartley Marvin pitched seven innings for Napoleon, striking out five batters on the mound. Blake Hoskins had two of the Golden Eagles’ four hits of the game. Napoleon won game two 6-4 as Bubba Crites pitched a complete game for the Pirates. Rocco Cross had two hits and knocked in two runs for Napoleon. Jason Negus also recorded two hits for the Pirates in the win.

Four student-athletes from the West Virginia University rifle team wrapped up competition at the 2022 National Rifle Junior Olympic Championships over the weekend in Hillsdale, Michigan. Sophomores Becca Lamb, Molly McGhin and Matt Sanchez, along with freshman Natalie Perrin, represented WVU at the event, which was hosted by USA Shooting.
