Lyle, MN (KROC-AM News) - Mower County authorities say a Rochester man was responsible for a "shelter in place" advisory in Lyle Friday afternoon. Austin Police Chief David McKichan says the situation started with an armed robbery at an Austin convenience store around 1:50 p.m. A news release says an off-duty Austin police officer was driving by the business and noticed a vehicle that was parked nearby matched the description of a car tied to a robbery at a liquor store earlier in the week. The officer informed the Mower County dispatch center about the vehicle at the same time an employee of the convenience store was calling in to report a robbery at knifepoint.

The vehicle fit the description of one connected to a recent robbery at Cheers Liquor. Police say the driver who the vehicle and headed toward a gas station also match the description of the suspect in the Cheers robbery.

AUSTIN, Minn. – A woman accused of killing her child is pleading not guilty. Jocelyn Leslie Pater, 25 of Glenville, is charged with second-degree manslaughter, child endangerment, permitting a child to ingest drugs, and fifth-degree drug possession. Investigators say Pater on December 13, 2021, was sleeping on the couch with her two-month-old son and wound up suffocating him. Court documents state methamphetamine was also found in the baby’s system, though it is not clear if the drug contributed to the child’s death.

AUSTIN, Minn. – Over five years after a car crash in Mower County, the driver is finally sentenced. Jude Thomas Mary O’Neill, 25 of Minneapolis, was ordered Thursday to pay $1,122 in restitution and spend one year and 11 months in prison, but he was given credit for over two years already served.

HOWARD COUNTY - Julian Merritt and Lucas Merritt of Hawkeye Sanitation addressed Lime Springs City Council about having different totes for garbage and recycling. The cost for the service will go up 10-15% the first year and then 3-4% annually.
