Sullivan: Navy considering reopening base in Adak

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - It’s been nearly 24 years since the Navy closed its airbase at Adak. Yet, it continues to show signs of life. The Marines arrived in Adak in September 2019 as part of a joint exercise with the Navy and Coast Guard to show how troops respond to emergencies in the Arctic.

Unalaska's schools are on holiday break, and whether or not they'll reopen to in-person learning on Jan. 4 is still undecided; the City of Unalaska reported two new cases of COVID-19 on Friday — both industry-related; and residents of Adak are under lockdown after someone tested positive for the virus upon arrival in the small Aleutian community.
