Oklahoma governor signs transgender bathroom bill

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt has signed a bill requiring public school students to use only the bathroom of the sex listed on their birth certificate. About a dozen conservative states have passed laws targeting the transgender population over bathroom use, participation in school sports, and gender-affirming treatments or surgery for young people.

N.J. cops will no longer jail people with warrants less than $500, AG says

New Jersey’s attorney general said this week that police officers will no longer arrest people who are wanted for skipping court dates for minor crimes or missing a payment. Police in the Garden State should no longer arrest people they encounter with municipal “bench warrants” with bail amounts of $500 or less, acting Attorney General Matthew Platkin ordered in a directive sent to State Police and local departments.

Indiana lawmakers enact trans sports ban with veto override

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- Despite a veto from Indiana's governor, an Indiana bill banning transgender females from competing in girls school sports will become law. State senators voted 32-15 on Tuesday in favor of overriding Gov. Eric Holcomb following the same action in a 67-28 vote by the House earlier in the day. Holcomb had said in his veto message that bill did not provide a consistent policy for what he called “fairness in K-12 sports” when he unexpectedly vetoed it in March.
