Over 100 art pieces are on display in the Greyhound Hall of Fame’s event hall. This week, the Arts Council of Dickinson County is hosting their 2022 Chaffee/Bradshaw Student Artist Reception. The reception is filled with the culmination of student’s work while in the council’s 3-week 2022 Chaffee/Bradshaw Summer Art Classes.

The Abilene Commission met for a regular meeting June 27 to vote and discuss six agenda items. During the public comments section, Michael Kaiser of W. 3rd Street took the podium. He asked the commission how the city could maintain the high dive board at the Abilene Swimming Pool while keeping it safe for children. Kaiser said he did not want the high dive to be removed.

Kansas-based mystery writer Steven J. Kolbe visited the Abilene Public Library Monday where he presented a mystery writing workshop. Kolbe isn an English teacher in Holcomb and the author of “How Everything Turns Away,” a novel starring disgraced FBI agent Ezra James who finds himself sleuthing out the answers to a murder mystery.

Abilene will celebrated Independence Day this year with events for people of all ages — from sports tournaments to fireworks and all kinds of things in between — in the Eisenhower Park area. Several new activities will be available this year. Registration starts the morning of July 4...

We don’t need to glorify the past, but we need to know the past so we can understand and appreciate what we have today.”
