Down to the last bite

MONTICELLO, Ky--- The first annual Pool Hall Burger Eating Contest came down to the last bite. Daniel Upchurch took home the trophy after successfully eating 15 burgers and one bite of his 16th burger in the final seconds of this one hour competition on June 5. This was enough to beat fellow competitor Zach Sparks with his record of 15 burgers.

Food trucks return to Columbia Friday

Columbia Mayor Pam Hoots has announced the lineup for food trucks scheduled to set up this summer in the city. The trucks, brought in from several different locations around the state, will be located each day in the parking lot across from city hall, at the corner of Campbellsville Road and Merchant Street.

City Of Columbia: Food Truck Schedule 2021

Drive-Thru Food Distribution Scheduled For Jamestown Super Center

The need for fresh food in Jamestown is being addressed on Wednesday with a drive-thru distribution. Forbus Circuit United Methodist Pastor John Dietz said a U-Haul will be set up at noon at the Super Center in Jamestown across from Taco Bell. Dietz said 450 boxes will be available for families in need and all they have to do is call.

A fast-food chain will be opening a new location in neighboring Adair County. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for today for the new KFC location coming to Columbia, located in front of Walmart. The groundbreaking will be held at 11 a.m. Estimated completion date for the new restaurant is unknown.

Alcohol now being sold in Monticello

MONTICELLO, Ky. -- Alcohol is legally being sold today in Wayne County. Payless Gas on North Main Street in Monticello is selling beer and Malt Beverages, including Seltzers, under the first license approved by the State Alcohol Beverage Control in the City of Monticello. According to reports, Miller Products are the first to be delivered to Payless with Anheuser Busch Products expected Saturday.

KFC restaurant plans approved

The actual meeting lasted all of about 10 minutes. However, the impact of the City of Columbia Planning and Zoning Board meeting last week will go on for years to come. In a unanimous decision, board members voted to approve site development plans for KFC’s request to open a location at Dohoney Trace in front of Walmart near Burkesville Road.
