Obituary of Glenn Whitney Small, 60

From Chapel of the Roses & Chapel of the Roses Cemetery. – Glenn Whitney Small died Monday, June 13, 2022 in Atascadero, California. Glenn was born on Jan. 5, 1962, in Arcadia, California. His parents were Jacqueline Jane Porter and David Whitney Small. Glenn attended California State Polytechnic University earning a Bachelor of Science in Economics.

Local female youth attend firefighting camp

– After much preparation and multi-fire agency support, Camp Cinder took place in San Luis Obispo County from June 22 through 26. Camp Cinder is a firefighting-based program in which female high school-age youth are introduced to multiple disciplines of the fire service. Over the course of five days, campers learn and perform hands-on skills pertaining to structural firefighting, wildland firefighting, rescue operations, and first-responder medical interventions.

Missing juvenile last seen in South County

– On July 1, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call regarding a missing 15-year-old girl from Nipomo. Alilianna Trujillo is from Arizona and was visiting family members for the summer. She was last seen leaving a family member’s home in Nipomo on July 1. She has no known friends in the area. She does have family members living in the Santa Maria area.

Pavement rehabilitation project begins Tuesday

– The City of Atascadero has announced that construction is scheduled to begin for the 2022 F-14 Pavement Rehabilitation Project on Tuesday. Project improvements consist of pavement rehabilitation for a total of 3.3 miles of roadway, including Ardilla Road between Balboa Road and the northern end, Balboa Road between Santa Ana Road and San Fernando Road, Cebada Road between Santa Ana Road and the southern end, Cenegal Road between Laurel Road and the previous western terminus, and Corriente Road between San Fernando Road and Santa Ana Road.

At-risk missing adult last seen in San Luis Obispo

Authorities seeking information on his whereabouts. – On Wednesday at approximately 2 p.m., detectives from the San Luis Obispo Police Department were contacted by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office regarding a report of an at-risk missing person, Jason Errecalde. Errecalde resides in the city of San Luis Obispo and is under the police department’s jurisdiction so the case was transferred to SLOPD.

Home brewing competition results announced

– The California Mid-State Fair has announced the winners of the 2022 Home Brew Competition. Central Coast brewers were represented well with entries of all styles. “Overall, the 2022 competition was a success,” said chief judge Ryan Foster. “The entry count is back on the rise which is promising. The brewers are taking the judge’s suggestions and bettering their beers which is what this competition is all about and we hope to continue helping them.”

Fourth of July music festival returns for its fifth year

Music festival will include many varieties of Americana music. – The annual Atascadero Fourth of July Music Festival will take place on Monday, July 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Atascadero Lake Park. Celebrate Independence Day lakeside under giant shady oaks with three great musical acts on an evening of music, food, drinks, vendors, family fun, and amusements.

Elephant seal visitor center plans July 16 grand opening

Center provides an easily accessible location to help visitors learn more about the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery. – The Friends of the Elephant Seal will celebrate the grand opening of the expanded Elephant Seal Visitor Center on Saturday, July 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The new 1000-sq.ft. Elephant Seal Visitor Center provides informative exhibits, in-depth resources, educational programs, a live-streaming seal cam, and unique elephant seal gifts. The San Simeon-based Visitor Center provides an easily accessible location to help visitors learn more about the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery before or after their visit to the Elephant Seal Viewing Area, 7.8 miles to the north. The Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal rookery is home to the largest mainland colony of northern elephant seals, estimated at 25,000 seals.

‘Summer Sizzle Series’ returns to farmers’ market this week

Event series kicks off Wednesday in the Sunken Gardens. – The City of Atascadero and the North County Farmer’s Markets have announced the return of their “Summer Sizzle Series,” kicking off this Wednesday from 3-6 p.m. This will be the first of four Summer Sizzle events to be held weekly from June 29 through August 3 at the farmers’ market in the Atascadero Sunken Gardens, except during the California Mid State Fair on July 20 and 27.

Golfer caddied by former Greyhound wins Travelers’ Championship

It’s Xander Schauffele’s sixth victory on the PGA Tour. – Xander Schauffele won the Travelers Championship golf tournament in Cromwell, Connecticut on Sunday. Schauffele’s caddie and partner on the course is Austin Kaiser, who played golf at Atascadero High School before meeting Xander at San Diego State, where they played together on the Aztec golf team.

Crews contain structure fire in Atascadero

Shed near intersection of Miramon and Buena Avenue catches fire. – Atascadero Fire and Emergency Services arrived on the scene of a structure fire at Miramon and Buena Ave. in Atascadero at around 2:05 p.m. Saturday afternoon. A 30x 60 shed was fully involved upon arrival with extension into nearby trees. No other structures were damaged.

Man injured in collision on Lewis Avenue Bridge in Atascadero

Single-vehicle collision reported early Sunday morning. – A car crash was reported early Sunday morning around 1:30 or 2 a.m. on the Lewis Avenue Bridge in Atascadero. The unidentified motorist reportedly lost control of his Subaru WRX and crashed the car as he traveled north on Lewis Avenue. The man suffered head injuries and a broken nose, and was transported to a local hospital.
