Fresh Off ‘Unruly Behavior’, Long Branch 4th Fireworks Postponed

Depending on who you ask or what you read, last weekend's events in Long Branch, New Jersey caused quite a stir. The Long Branch Office Of The Mayor said that "thousands of young people from all over the state gathered along the beachfront around Pier Village." They went on to say that there was "unruly behavior" and that "the crowd was eventually dispersed. The police arrested four individuals for disorderly persons offenses." Here we are just a few days later and the Office Of the Director of Public Safety made a surprising announcement.

Lakewood, NJ couple among missing in Florida building collapse

A young couple from Lakewood is among those unaccounted for in the collapse of a 12- story apartment building in Surfside, Florida, according to The Lakewood Scoop. The young couple, a man and a woman who live in the Coventry Square section of Lakewood, were visiting family at the time of the building collapse early Thursday morning. According to the Lakewood Scoop, the couple is in their late 20s.

NJ expands utility assistance programs for pandemic-strapped residents

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities is extending a helping hand to those still struggling to keep up with gas and electric bills as a result of COVID-19 income loss. Changes to the BPU's Universal Service Fund go into effect Oct. 1, according to a release issued Thursday. They include a raising of income limits from 185% of the Federal Poverty Level to 400%, a threshold of approximately $104,000, making more New Jerseyans eligible for benefits.

South Jersey's own Carli Lloyd has been selected to join the U.S. Women's Olympic Soccer Team, ready to make her state and country proud (again!) by bringing home more gold. I cannot wait to watch Carli compete in Tokyo in a few weeks. The fact that the Delran native was selected for to join the team coming off knee surgery (and at 38-years-old; she'll turn 39 just before the Olympic games get underway) makes it even more exciting.

This is tremendous news! The Manasquan Inlet Intracoastal Tug, presented by Jersey Mike's, is back and better than ever. After a year away, the one-of-a-kind event will return for a third time on Saturday, October 9th. The series of tugs-of-war across the Manasquan Inlet serves as a recreation department fundraiser for Manasquan and Point Pleasant Beach. The day will begin at 11 am with two concurrent festivals, one on each side of the Inlet. Each festival will include live music, craft vendors, food vendors, and additional fun!
