Guilty Plea Entered in Rochester Child Abuse Case

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A sentencing hearing has been scheduled in September for a Rochester man who is admitted to seriously injuring his infant son. 23-year-old Dylan Horsman today officially entered into a plea agreement in Olmsted County Court and admitted to a first-degree assault charge. Under the plea deal, prosecutors have agreed to recommend a sentence based on state guidelines, which call for a presumptive prison sentence of around seven years in situations involving defendants with "clean" criminal histories.

Owatonna Police Nab California Fugitive Working at Costco

Owatonna Police performed some assistance to their counterparts from Sutter County California by apprehending a fugitive. Accused Rochester Catalytic Converter Thief Avoids Prison

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - One of the people involved in the theft of catalytic converters in the Rochester area is being given a chance to avoid going to prison. 60-year-old Keith Wilcox recently pleaded guilty to three felony charges related to the theft of the vehicle emission control devices and was given multiple stayed prison sentences. He was also given stayed prison sentences for convictions on charges of fleeing police and possession of burglary or theft tools stemming from an incident that occurred a month before he was caught in possession of 8 stolen catalytic converters in early May.

ZZ Top Bassist Dusty Hill Dead at 72

ZZ Top bassist and vocalist Dusty Hill, who played with the blues-rock trio for more than 50 years, died Tuesday night at the age of 72. Surviving ZZ Top members, singer and guitarist Billy Gibbons and drummer Frank Beard, confirmed Hill’s death and paid tribute to the bassist in a brief statement on Wednesday.

Is It Really More Tropical in Rochester Than It Is in the Tropics?

Don't kid yourself, the hot, steamy weather we've been experiencing the past few days here in Minnesota rivals the hot, humid weather going on right now in the tropics!. If you check the latest forecast from the National Weather Service Office in La Crosse, you'll note that they're calling for high temperatures near 95 Wednesday afternoon with dew points in the mid-70's, all of which combine to give us a heat index of temperatures between 100 and 105. Which is no doubt why the NWS issued a Heat Advisory, which is in effect from 10 am to 9 pm Wednesday. 'Dangerously hot' is how they described our current weather on their Twitter page.

Slain Northern Minnesota Law Officer Identified

Red Lake, MN (KROC-AM News) - The northern Minnesota law officer who was killed in the line of duty early Tuesday has been identified. Red Lake Director of Public Safety Michael Burns says Red Lake Officer Ryan Bialke died from gunshot wounds he suffered while responding to a call about a suicidal man in a residence with children possibly present. He says the suspect opened fire when Red Lake officers arrived at the scene and Officer Bialke was shot.
