It isn’t an if you build it, they will come kind of thing. Unlike most other cities around the country, despite the abundance of Mexican food options in the area, the industry does a relatively good job of policing itself. It weeds out the locations that underperform with their food. Franchises coming to Phoenix need to be up to snuff, otherwise, their expansion dreams will fail. That is exactly what happened to one national chain that tried to make a go at it in the Valley.

Judging the best taco can be a tough job, especially in a state like Arizona which has such great Mexican food. PHOENIX, AZ. - On Tuesday, Jeff Barton, the city manager of Phoenix, presented his trial budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The $1.9 billion general fund budget suggests using most of the anticipated $134 million surplus for employee wage increases. Barton argues that the city's staffing issue, with approximately 17% of city positions remaining unfilled, is caused by low wages and a tight labor market.

Intriguing stores include Zara and the sportswear chains Lululemon and Fabletics, as well as the UK fashion label All Saints. Shop owner, Cory, is no newbie to the world of vintage reselling having started in the biz in 2006. However, their brick-and-mortar shop opened in Tempe, AZ two years ago. Located in a cozy spot right off Scottsdale road, Luxie is a one-stop shop for everything groovy. This past weekend they opened up their doors for an anniversary party featuring other local businesses and food from the restaurant Green.

Gas prices in the Phoenix metro area and throughout the state of Arizona reportedly spiked overnight, rising around 20 cents throughout the Valley of the Sun, shocking consumers in the morning.

Former NFL star Michael Irvin's lawsuit against Marriott International, initially filed in Texas, is now refiled in Arizona. The lawsuit is for $100 million, with Irvin seeking damages for defamation and wrongfully interfering with a business relationship. The lawsuit includes six defendants: Marriott International, the Renaissance Hotel Operating Company, his accuser, and three other hotel employees.

There’s no denying the love of Mexican food in the Valley. Most of the restaurants around town are independently owned. They are run by families who want to both make a living as well as share their love of food with the community. And yet, for whatever reason, entities from outside states look at Phoenix and deem it the ideal destination to open satellite locations. Despite the sheer volume of authentic Mexican food, these restaurants move in, as if there’s a gold rush on Mexican cuisine in Arizona. This is happening once again, as a restaurant chain from out of state has moved in and set up shop.

North Scottsdale is getting another new hospital, according to a press release by Banner Health yesterday. They are spending $400 million on the project on 48 acres of land around there.

Few southern dishes are as unique as chicken and waffles. At first, it seems like an unusual combination, but when you think about it, pairing something savory, such as the chicken, with something sweet, in this case, the waffle (and its syrup), just seems to work. It is a dish that, when done right, just finds a way to put smiles on faces. While there are a handful of destinations around metro Phoenix that do produce the dish, few originate in Atlanta, the city of the dish’s birth. All of that is set to change, as an Atlanta-based chicken and waffles restaurant is set to open this month in the Valley.

Taylor Swift surprised and amazed teenager, Isabella McCune, with tickets to The Eras Tour in Arizona to kick off her much anticipated tour for which tickets were incredibly hard to obtain. McCune was badly burned in an accident five years ago preventing her from attending Swift's "Reputation Stadium Tour" in 2018. Isabella was, and remains, a huge fan of Swift and had missed the chance to attend her concert in Arizona because of her injuries.
