Three Franklin County teams were scheduled to get their state tournament runs going, as Chambersburg softball and Greencastle-Antrim baseball and softball were each set for round one action on Monday.

The Blue Devils got to go automatically through due to a forfeit in baseball, where they will face Pocono Mt. East at Wenger Field in Fredericksburg on Thursday at 5 p.m.

So that left the two softball squads to try and earn spots in the quarterfinals. Here's what happened in round one:

Sam Paetow (35) celebrates a walk-off win for Chambersburg over Central York on April 13, 2023

Chambersburg 16, Central 0 (F/4): It was a long trip for the Trojans, but they didn't stay long.

Chambersburg traveled out to Philadelphia and made quick work of Central, getting it done in four innings. The Trojans jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first, and then added five more in the third to really put it out of reach.

Morgan Stockslager and Karley Skultety led the way, each recording three RBIs. Their ace Kylee Miller was only needed for three innings, and made light work of Central.

The Trojans will now face Nazareth (21-6) in the quarterfinals on Thursday, with a site and time TBD.

Oxford 6, Greencastle-Antrim 3: A big fifth inning was the difference in this one.

Greencastle-Antrim softball fell to Mechanicsburg 3-1 in the district semifinals on Tuesday, May 30, 2023

The Blue Devils' season ends at the hands of Oxford, with the Hornets pulling the game out of reach in the fifth inning.

Oxford was able to jump out to a lead, but Greencastle tied it up, leaving the game 1-1 heading into the fifth. But the Hornets were able to plate three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to put the game out of reach. The Blue Devils rallied to score two in the seventh but it wasn't enough.

Greencastle was able to get hits, nine in the game, but couldn't get the big one to really get things going.

It was a stellar season for the Blue Devils, winning the Colonial, the Mid-Penn and making it to the final four in districts.
