CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio -- Since 2015, Chagrin Falls High School seniors and the village’s first responders have turned to lay-ups and three-pointers to raise money for a variety of worthy causes.
The 2023 Chagrin Classic basketball game -- at 7 p.m. Wednesday (March 22) in the high school gym -- will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
The evening’s cause is personal for Chagrin Falls police officer Jason Fischer, who battled Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2020. After nine months of treatment, Fischer has been cancer-free since July 2021.
Fischer will be part of the “old guys” basketball squad that “box out” against the younger Tiger team.
“During my treatment, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society contacted me and asked if I needed assistance,” Fischer said.
“I had a great conversation with the representative and told our story. It was great to see things coming full circle and how we as a community can help others,” he said.
Admission to the charity basketball game is free, but donations will be accepted. Halftime will involve a lot of bakery, as there will be a donut-eating competition and pies to the face.
