CENTREVILLE — Centreville Middle School proudly announces William Baugh, an eighth grade trumpet player in the CMS Band, as the QACPS Performing Arts ‘Teen of the Week’.

Nominated by Heather Fullerton, William’s dedication and talent have earned him this prestigious honor as a member of the CMS Marching Band, Symphonic Band and award-winning Jazz Band.

“William has auditioned for the Junior All Shore Band twice and been selected as a member both times,” shared Fullerton.

Reflecting on his experience in the band program, William expressed, “It’s helped me make more friends and have a fun break during every school day. It’s also something to always look forward to with concerts and something to be proud of. I also like being skilled in an instrument.”

William fondly recalls a memorable moment at Music in the Parks, where he performed with his bandmates before enjoying roller coasters with friends. However, his commitment to the CMS Band extends beyond moments of joy. Despite facing the sudden loss of his father in June 2023, William still chose to perform at the CMS Band Spring Concert, demonstrating remarkable strength and solidarity with his band family during incredibly difficult circumstances.

In honor of William’s selfless act and the generosity of the Baugh Family, donations were made to the CMS Band Program. To further commemorate this gesture, and as a way of honoring William’s father, Heather Fullerton commissioned Dr. Mark Lortz to compose a piece of music titled “Perseverance” in memory of Dave Baugh.

This piece will premiere at the CMS Band Spring Concert on June 4, at 7 p.m. in the QACHS Auditorium, and is open to the public. Hear more of William’s story by tuning into ArtScene | the Podcast on May 1 in an exclusive interview with CMS Band Director Heather Fullerton at https://anchor.fm/artscene and on Spotify.
