Sirens: People squatting at vacant residence; Man seen lying on railroad tracks; Man seen 'carrying a pole with a knife at the end'

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Disorderly conduct

• A homeless Centralia resident was warned for “yelling and swearing” in a city park in the 2000 block of Borst Avenue at 12:30 p.m. on April 12.

Criminal trespass

• A Centralia resident was trespassed from a business in the 400 block of North Gold Street for reportedly “disturbing the customers” just after 3:05 p.m. on April 12.

• A 29-year-old Olympia man was arrested for trespassing in the 300 block of North Gold Street just after 3:35 p.m. on April 12.

• People were reportedly squatting in a vacant residence in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road just before 1:45 p.m. on April 13. Officers checked the residence and found “it was obvious that someone had been staying there and destroying property and leaving garbage behind,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

• Officers received two separate reports of an unknown male lying on train tracks at the intersection of East Maple and North Gold streets just after 1 a.m. on April 14. BNSF was notified and stopped all railroad traffic. Officers were unable to locate the male.

• At approximately 10:10 p.m. on April 14, a resident in the 200 block of South Tower Avenue reported five unknown people were inside their residence and refused to leave when asked. Responding officers found no one inside the residence. “The reporting party then advised officers they believed the unknown persons could have been spiritual beings,” according to the Centralia Police Department.

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run to a parked vehicle was reported in the 100 block of South Gold Street at 9:40 p.m. on April 12.

• Just before 11:05 a.m. on April 13, a hit-and-run to a vehicle in the 1600 block of Windsor Avenue that occurred sometime overnight was reported. The case is under investigation.

DUI

• A 24-year-old Bremerton woman was arrested in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 3:25 a.m. on April 13 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for DUI.

• An 18-year-old Centralia man was arrested at the intersection of Kearney Street and Central Boulevard at approximately 3:55 a.m. on April 14 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for DUI.

Eluding

• Two motorcycles reportedly failed to stop for police at the intersection of West Main and South Cedar streets just before noon on April 13. Officers did not initiate a pursuit due to current state legislation, according to the Centralia Police Department. The case is under investigation.

Vehicle accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported on private property in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 3:05 p.m. on April 13.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of East Maple and North Gold streets just before 4:25 p.m. on April 14.

Theft

• While conducting proactive patrol in the 100 block of West High Street just after 7:10 p.m. on April 13, an officer observed two subjects “quickly walking away from a store and get into a vehicle with no license plates.” Stolen property from the store was subsequently recovered from the vehicle and returned to the store. One of the occupants, a 41-year-old Vader woman, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail for first-degree criminal impersonation and on an outstanding Lewis County District Court warrant. The other occupant,a 35-year-old Kelso woman, was cited for third-degree theft.

• A wallet was reported stolen from a motel in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road just after 3:40 a.m. on April 14. The case is under investigation.

• A juvenile reportedly stole jewelry from the 1100 block of Scammon Creek Road at approximately 11:35 a.m. on April 14. The case is under investigation.

• Just before 10:35 p.m. on April 14, a theft that occurred in the 200 block of East Chestnut Street a month prior was reported.

Malicious mischief

• A 64-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 900 block of L Street just after 9:25 p.m. on April 13 and was booked into the Chehalis Tribal Jail for third-degree malicious mischief, domestic violence for allegedly “damaging a roommate's vehicle with a 2x4.”

Drug violations

• A 37-year-old Centralia man was arrested in the 1200 block of Mellen Street at 7:05 a.m. on April 14 for possession of meth. He reportedly had “an obvious meth pipe in his lap” while inside a vehicle.

• While conducting proactive patrol in the 100 block of West High Street just before 7:10 p.m. on April 14, an officer observed a suspicious vehicle with no license plates. When the officer approached the vehicle, he observed a male seated in the back seat with drug paraphernalia next to him and in the center console area. The male, 26, of Renton, was arrested for knowingly possessing a controlled substance and for an outstanding King County warrant. The vehicle’s owner, 25, of Seattle, arrived on scene and claimed ownership of the vehicle. Execution of a search warrant on the vehicle yielded drug paraphernalia and suspected narcotics. The vehicle’s owner was cited for knowingly possessing a controlled substance.

Suspicious circumstances

• Two suspicious individuals were reported on private property in the 400 block of Centralia College Boulevard just before 8:20 a.m. on April 14. No crime occurred.

Burglary

• A burglary to a business in the 1700 block of Midway Court that was reported at 3:40 p.m. on April 14 is under investigation.

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Juvenile problem

• An unaccompanied child between the ages of 4 and 5 was reportedly walking near the roadway in the 500 block of South Market Boulevard at approximately 9:25 a.m. on April 12. The child was picked up and returned home.

Criminal trespass

• A man was trespassed from a business in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard just before 10:35 a.m. on April 12.

• Just before 5:45 p.m. on April 12, an employee at a business in the 200 block of South Market Boulevard reported a man who was “smoked out of his mind” asked to use the bathroom, was told no, but went into the bathroom anyways. He was trespassed from the business.

• A male subject who was “causing a disturbance” was trespassed from a business in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard just before 7:25 p.m. on April 12.

• A subject reportedly trespassed at the Yardbirds Shopping Mall in the 2100 block of North National Avenue at approximately 12:10 a.m. on April 13.

Theft

• Two thefts were reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 2:05 p.m. on April 12.

• A woman reportedly shoplifted a pair of shoes from a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 1:20 p.m. On April 13. The shoes were recovered.

• A man reportedly shoplifted from a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 2:35 p.m. on April 13.

• A vehicle was reported stolen from the 10 block of Southwest 12th Street at approximately 9:30 a.m. on April 14. The reporting party advised it was “highly possible (the) keys were in the vehicle.”

• A red mountain bike was reported stolen from the 10 block of Southwest Chehalis Avenue just after 10:30 a.m. on April 14.

Hit-and-run

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 3:30 p.m. on April 12.

Vehicle accident

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1100 block of South Market Boulevard at approximately 5:10 p.m. on April 12.

Harassment

• Harassment reported in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just after 10:35 p.m. on April 12 is under investigation.

Disorderly conduct

• A man was reportedly standing in the middle of the roadway and stopping traffic in the 500 block of Northwest Pacific Avenue just before 5:15 a.m. on April 13. He was not in the road when an officer arrived. He was advised to stay out of the road.

Disputes

• Just after 11:20 p.m. on April 13, a resident in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street reported their neighbors were “screaming at each other and banging around.” The resident reportedly asked the neighbors to stop, but “they kept yelling ‘f*** you’ at each other.”

• A verbal dispute was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at approximately 8:15 p.m. on April 14.

Malicious mischief

• Just after 11:55 a.m. on April 13, a citizen reported their vehicle’s tires had been slashed in the 500 block of Northeast Adams Avenue.

Suspicious circumstances

• Just before 9 p.m. on April 13, a citizen reported “there’s someone wearing a mask standing at the back door” of a vehicle in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue. A responding officer found no damage to the vehicle and determined no crime had occurred.

• A citizen reported possible health violations at an apartment building in the 200 block of Northwest State Avenue just after 8:35 a.m. on April 14.

• A woman was reportedly “sitting in an old beat up truck, smoking and screaming ‘get away from me’” in the 400 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue just after 3:40 p.m. on April 14.

• A man “carrying a pole with a knife at the end” reportedly walked into the woods in the 600 block of Northeast Franklin Avenue just before 5:20 p.m. on April 14.

• Two subjects were possibly prowling vehicles in the 100 block of Northeast Boistfort Street just before 9:35 p.m. on April 14.

FIRE AND EMS CALLS

• Between Friday morning and Monday morning, Lewis County 911 Communications logged approximately 36 illness-related calls, 24 injury-related calls, eight fire-related calls, five non-emergency service calls, three vehicle accident, one Lifeline medical alert, three overdoses, one suicide-related call, one hazardous conditions report, one 911 hangup call and one other call.

JAIL STATISTICS

• As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 152 inmates, including 138 in the general population and 14 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 110 were reported male and 28 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and three were reported female.

• As of Monday morning, the Chehalis Tribal Jail had a total system population of 24 inmates, including 12 booked by the Centralia Police Department, seven booked by the state Department of Corrections, one booked by the Lummi Nation, one booked by the Tenino Police Department and three booked by Chehalis Tribal Court.
