Sirens: 'Trying to Eat a Stolen Sandwich'; Eluding Police; Burglary; Disorderly Conduct

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Trespassing 

• A Texas man was cited for trespassing on property in the 100 block of South Pearl Street just before 10:15 a.m. on March 24. 

• A New Jersey man was trespassed from a business in the 1200 block of Mellen Street for allegedly making threats toward an employee just after 8:05 p.m. on March 24.

 

Theft 

• A Tacoma man was cited for third-degree theft just after 5:05 p.m. on March 24 for allegedly stealing a sweatshirt and sweatpants from an outlet store in the 1400 block of Lum Road. Officers located the man based on the vehicle description, a gray Dodge Durango with red racing stripes, in the Nike Outlet parking area, where they found him in possession of the stolen items from the other store.

• A Longview man was cited for third-degree theft just after 10:15 p.m. on March 24 for allegedly stealing a sandwich from a store in the 900 block of Harrison Avenue. Officers reportedly found him “trying to eat the stolen sandwich.” He was also found with “several other items taken from the store” in his possession. 

 

Vehicle Accidents 

• A non-injury vehicle collision was reported at the intersection of South Gold and East Van Buren streets at approximately 2:15 a.m. on March 25. A southbound driver reportedly drifted into the right side of the roadway and collided with a parked vehicle. The driver did not appear to be under the influence of intoxicants, according to law enforcement. 

• A non-injury, single-vehicle accident was reported in the 500 block of North Pearl Street at 11:20 a.m. on March 25. 

 

Hit-and-Run 

• A hit-and-run was reported at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and southbound Interstate 5 at approximately 5:10 p.m. on March 25. 

 

Eluding Police 

• A white Honda Accord reportedly fled from law enforcement after the occupant/occupants stole over $600 worth of merchandise from a store in the 1400 block of Lum Road just after 3:40 p.m. on March 25. The vehicle, which had a red cover over the license plate and something visible in the back window, drove recklessly at a high rate of speed in the oncoming lane of travel, according to the Centralia Police Department. The vehicle reportedly failed to stop when officers attempted a traffic stop, and officers did not pursue the vehicle in compliance with Washington state law.

 

Disorderly Conduct 

• A Centralia man was arrested in the 1900 block of South Gold Street just after 12:50 a.m. on March 26 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail on an outstanding municipal court warrant and for new charges of obstructing a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.  

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Loose Dogs 

• At 9:35 a.m. on March 24, a caller reported two small dogs chased the reporting party and their cat in the 10 block of Southwest Ninth Street. Just before 11:35 a.m., a person later identified as the dogs’ possible owner called to report her dogs were missing. 

 

Hit-and-Run

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 8200 block of southbound Interstate 5 just before 5:30 p.m. on March 22. The at-fault vehicle reportedly struck several vehicles before fleeing. 

• A hit-and-run reported at the intersection of Chamber of Commerce Way and southbound Interstate 5 just before 1:20 p.m. on March 24 is under investigation. 

 

Vehicle Accidents

• A non-injury, three-vehicle collision was reported in the 900 block of Northwest State Avenue just after 2:35 p.m. on March 24. 



• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported in the 1700 block of North National Avenue just before 4:50 p.m. on March 26. The at-fault driver was issued a citation. 

• A vehicle reportedly crashed into a parked car at the intersection of Northwest West Street and Northwest Rhode Island Place just after 9:50 p.m. on March 26. No injuries were reported. 

 

Disorderly Conduct 

• Juveniles were reportedly “attempting to throw rocks at (a) house” in the 300 block of Southwest Eighth Street at approximately 7 p.m. on March 22. 

• An “aggressive male customer” reportedly threatened a female customer in the 1400 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 8 p.m. on March 22.  

• At approximately 2:05 p.m. on March 24, a caller reported a woman was “attempting to run him over with a vehicle” in the 300 block of West Main Street the night before. No injuries were reported. 

• Eight juveniles were reportedly “throwing things at cars” in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just after 9:15 p.m. on March 24. 

 

Malicious Mischief 

• A subject accused of throwing a glass bottle at a vehicle during a dispute in the 700 block of Southeast Adams Avenue just after 8:35 p.m. on March 22 was cited for second-degree malicious mischief. 

 

Criminal Trespass 

• A male subject reportedly spit on a person in the 300 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue at approximately 2 p.m. on March 24. The person was trespassed from the person’s property. 

• Just after 10:40 p.m. on March 24, staff at a business in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue asked law enforcement to trespass a man and a woman who were reportedly harassing subjects at a business. 

• A subject who was reportedly wearing boots and a jacket that were previously stolen from the store in the 1700 block of North National Avenue was arrested at the business just after 6:05 p.m. on March 25 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for criminal trespass. 

• Five juveniles reportedly trespassed on private property in the 1500 block of North National Avenue just after 6:50 p.m. On March 25. 

• Unidentified subjects reportedly trespassed on property in the 1500 block of North National Avenue at 7:25 p.m. on March 26. The subjects reportedly took bicycles from the property. 

 

Burglary 

• A burglary to a train car in the 100 block of Southwest Veterans Way was reported just after 4 p.m. on March 22. 

 

Theft 

• A third-degree theft reported in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue at 1:25 p.m. on March 25 is under investigation. 

• An attempted theft reported in the 1100 block of Southwest Sylvenus Street just after 5:15 p.m. on March 25 is under investigation. 

• A subject accused of stealing cash out of a register in the 100 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue was cited for third-degree theft just before 10 p.m. on March 25. 

• A piercing kit was reported stolen from a business in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 5:55 p.m. on March 26. 

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 157 inmates, including 143 in the general population and 14 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 113 were reported male and 30 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 12 were reported male and two were reported female.
