License plate reader helps lead to arrest of man, seizure of stolen vehicle in Central

CENTRAL, La. (BRPROUD) – A license plate reader helped lead to the discovery and seizure of a stolen vehicle and arrest of Stephen Jackson, 28, of Baker. Prior to the arrest, a member of the Central Police Department “received a flock camera notification of a stolen vehicle,” according to the affidavit. The vehicle was a Toyota Camry and it was located a little before 4 p.m. in the 9600 block of Hooper Road.

The Baton Rouge Police Department was able to confirm that the vehicle was stolen and a member of the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s provided assistance. A traffic stop was initiated by Central PD and Jackson surrendered to police. Jackson was the driver of the vehicle at the time of the stop. The Baker man said that he purchased the vehicle from someone and was unaware it was reported stolen. Jackson could not name who he brought the vehicle from and was arrested by Central PD.

Jackson was charged with distribution or possession with intent to distribute schedule I, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and prohibited acts. A search of the Toyota Camry uncovered ” approximately 30 grams of marijuana split between two bags along with a scale used for measuring narcotics,” according to the affidavit.

The Baker man remains behind bars as bond has not been set as of the publishing of this article.
