Fajitas and Doo Dah Parade kicks off festival fun
The 47th Annual East Texas Poultry Festival kicks off with the Chicken Fajita Lunch sponsored by East Texas Poultry Supply, Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the Center Fire Department.
Lunch includes two chicken fajitas, chips, salsa and a drink for $8 per plate and delivery is available for five or more advance orders by calling 936-598-3682, faxing an order form to 936-598-8163 or emailing info@shelbycountychamber. com by Friday, September 22.
An order form for the Fajita Lunch, as well as other Poultry Festival Events, is available at the Chamber of Commerce offices on the historic downtown square or on the Poultry Festival Event page on the Chamber website, www.shelbycountychamber.com.
The Doo Dah Parade
Parade starts at 5 p.m. Sept. 27. Line up at Farmers State Bank Drive-Thru at 4:30 p.m. The parade will circle the historic downtown square led by the Shelby County Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Everyone is encouraged to either watch or participate in the parade. Ride your bike, bring your pet (on a leash), promote your business or organization. Just show up ready to have fun!

Creative Arts Show deadlines run through Sept. 29
The 47th Annual East Texas Poultry Festival will feature local creative arts at the annual Creative Arts Show sponsored by Ray Jones Chevrolet, the Photography Show sponsored by The Light and Champion, and the Quilt Show sponsored by Scull Timber.
Don’t miss this opportunity to display your handiwork in art, quilting, photography, canning, crafts, woodworking, metal art, and baking.
Several classes of judging categories in the art competition are open to Elementary (Kindergarten through 5th grades), Youth (6th through 12th grades) and Adults that will be judged in separate divisions. All other competition divisions will have Youth and Adult categories.
All Creative Arts, Quilts and Photography will be shown at First Baptist Church Family Life Center during the Poultry Festival, October 5-7th.
Entry forms, fees and project drop off will be Sept. 18 through 29 at the AgriLife Extension Office, 266 Nacogdoches Street in Center.

Poultry Festival plans Quilt Show
The 47th Annual Poultry Festival will feature a Quilt Show sponsored by Scull Timber. This is your opportunity to showcase either your quilting skills, your grandmother’s heirloom quilt, or both. This year’s theme is “From the Garden.”
Wall hangings, crafts, and needlework are a part of the Creative Arts division rather than the Quilt Show division. Entry form, fee and quilt drop off will begin September 18 at the Agri-Life Extension/4H Office at 266 Nacogdoches Street in Center. Deadline for drop-off will be September 29th at 3:00 p.m. For more information, contact the Extension Office at 936-598-7744.
Festival Photography Show
The 47th Annual East Poultry Festival Open Photography Show will be held with the Quilt Show and Creative Arts Show at First Baptist Church Family Life Center gym, October 5-7th. Entry deadline has passed. Contact Billie Jones, Photography Competition Coordinator at 936-5912426 or 936-598-7778 for more information.
Photography Show Platinum Sponsor is The Light and Champion. Farmers State Bank is the Presenting Sponsor of the East Texas Poultry Festival. Gold Sponsors for the Festival are Badders Law Firm, City of Center, Pilgrim’s Pride and Tyson Foods.
Car and Motorcycle Show and Shine
The 6th Annual Poultry Festival Car and Motorcycle Show and Shine sponsored by Texas Farm Bureau Insurance returns Saturday, Oct. 7 as a part of the Poultry Festival Saturday activities. The location will be on the north side of the square from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
A People’s Choice Award trophy will be awarded at the end of the show. Enter your car and/or motorcycle, or just stop by and view the vehicles while enjoying the day at the Poultry Festival.
