Two drivers taken to hospital after crash in The Villages
Two drivers were transported by ambulance from the scene of a crash Friday morning in The Villages. The driver of a Ford Edge at 9:46 a.m. was making a left turn from Laurel Manor Drive to travel southbound on Buena Vista Boulevard, but failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign and turned into the path of a white Mercedes, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Driver with license revoked since 1999 arrested when caught behind wheel
A Wildwood man whose driver’s license has been revoked since 1999 has been arrested after he was caught behind the wheel. Desmond Guy Martindale, 67, was driving a blue pickup at 10:43 p.m. in Bushnell when a deputy noticed that one of the truck’s brake lights was not working, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
K-9 assists in arrest of two suspects with drugs at Brownwood
A K-9 assisted in the arrest of two suspects with drugs near the entrance to Brownwood. William Albert Windsor, 54, of Summerfield was driving an older model blue pickup shortly before 4 p.m. Tuesday on State Road 44 when a deputy noticed he was not wearing a seatbelt, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. In addition, a front seat passenger, 48-year-old Kristi Rae West of Summerfield, was not wearing her seatbelt.

GROVELAND — The city hopes to annex and rezone 144 acres for a park in the Green Swamp. The Planning and Zoning Board was scheduled to take up the matter on June 6. The matter eventually will go to the City Council for first reading on Monday, June 17, and second and final reading on July 1.
RoMac driver accused of using company gas card for personal use
A driver for RoMac Building Supply has been arrested after allegedly using a company gas card for personal use. Herron Chinua Worges, 38, of Leesburg, on Monday went to his supervisor at the RoMac facility off Rolling Acres Road to complain that his company-issued gas card was no longer working, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Worges took the gas card from his wallet and handed it to his supervisor, who found it odd, because the company policy is for the gas card to remain with the company vehicle and “never on an employee’s person,” according to the arrest report.
Villager struggling to keep up property after death of wife
A Villager is apparently struggling to keep up his property after the death last year of his wife. The home owned by the Billie Kizer Living Trust at 404 Simpson St. in the Village of Mallory Square was the subject of a public hearing Friday morning before the Community Development District 6 Board of Trustees at SeaBreeze Recreation Center.
