Walmart confirms four new locations built in US state – with groundbreaking supercenter coming in months
TEXAS shoppers in four cities can look forward to new Walmart store openings in the near future as the company resumes expansion.
Walmart spokespeople shared the locations of upcoming store openings on Friday.
Customers in Celina, Cypress, Frisco, and Melissa will no longer need to travel outside town to visit a Walmart.
These are the first Walmart stores to break ground in new cities since 2018, according to The Dallas Morning News.
The announcement comes just months after the retailer stated that it aimed to open 150 new locations and remodel hundreds of other stores.
"In the next five years, Walmart is planning to build or convert more than 150 stores, while simultaneously continuing our program to remodel existing stores," Walmart President and CEO By John Furner said in January.

"These efforts represent millions of dollars in capital investment of labor, supplies, and tax revenue, which benefit their respective communities."
The national retailer paused expansion efforts, along with most other brick-and-mortar establishments, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The four new Texas Walmarts will be located at:
- Celina: on the corner of Preston Road and Collin County Outer Loop
- Cypress: 8927 Fry Road
- Frisco: 16600 FM 423
- Melissa: on the corner of McKinney Street and Legacy Ranch Drive
The Frisco Walmart will be a new Supercenter and is expected to be the first to open, with construction planned to begin early this summer.
The Supercenter will be located in a bustling area of town, across GEE Road from a new H-E-B grocer.
“Our motivation for these new stores goes back to what we said in January," Walmart spokesperson Charles Crowson told local reporters.
Representatives said that Walmart had remodeled 200 locations in Texas over the last two years, with 75 stores being revamped in the northern part of the state alone.
Crowson said the company was still getting the zoning permissions and other paperwork for other locations.
A NEW LOOK
Remodeled Walmarts have new layout designs, product displays, and expanded item selection to help streamline shopping, according to store representatives.
They also better integrate technology into every aspect of the shopping experience,
New and remodeled Walmart stores have a greater health and wellness selection, a larger pharmacy, and a vision center.
Aisles are bigger to facilitate the movement of customers and more emphasis is put on displays combining different products.
What is a Walmart Supercenter?
Walmart Supercenters differ from regular locations, known as Neighborhood Markets, by offering a wider product selection and more services.
- Supercenters have every retail department that the company oversees, all together in one large location
- Shoppers can pick up groceries, visit the pharmacy, stop at the photo center, or take advantage of a number of other offerings at a Supercenter
- Neighborhood Markets, on the other hand, are much smaller Walmart stores
- They generally only include a grocery section, pharmacy, and customer service desk for pick-ups and returns
COMING AND GOING
While Texas shoppers may be celebrating their new Walmart locations, customers in some other cities are saying goodbye to their Walmarts for good.
Walmart representatives in Wisconsin confirmed on Thursday that it was closing its Milwaukee location in just a few weeks.
And spokesmen announced the closure of three locations in California and Maryland last month.
Some stores are not closing, but are getting rid of self-checkout options.

Walmart made headlines recently by announcing it would be removing the kiosks from stores in certain cities after finding a link between the machines and an increase in shoplifting.
Walmart did not immediately respond to a request for comment by The U.S. Sun about the new Texas openings.
