The injured party was identified by Ambrose, who was transported to the hospital by another civilian who was present, Daniel Gonzalez, before the police arrived. The reporting party was in the building, but not in the room, at the time the gun was discharged.

The Cedar Grove Detective Bureau arrived a short time later, and the patrol officers turned the scene over to the detectives. Detectives recovered a 9mm handgun and spoke with the reporting party, as well as Chief Manny Miranda of the Newark Police Department, who was also present in the building when the gun was fired.

Detectives conducted interviews with both Ambrose and Gonzalez at the hospital, determining that Ambrose was handling the gun when it discharged, and Gonzalez was the only other person in the room when the gun was fired.

Gonzalez, who possessed a valid permit to carry the gun, was determined to be the registered owner of the handgun.

Surveillance video from the building where the incident occurred was turned over to detectives by Ambrose. After reviewing the video, detectives were able to corroborate the statements provided by each of the individuals who were present.

"At this point in the investigation, the incident appears to be an accidental discharge of a firearm that resulted in an injury to one individual," the Cedar Grove police said in a statement on Wednesday, March 27. "All of the parties involved have cooperated fully with the investigation. There is no indication of any criminal activity."

Ambrose currently owns Ambrose Group LLC, a consulting firm.
