Man accused of abducting, sexually assaulting girl near loanDepot Park
MIAMI - A 27-year-old man is in jail Monday evening, accused of abducting and sexually battering a 14-year-old girl. The girl told police Akil Cousins grabbed her as she was sitting on a bench near loanDepot Park, near NW 13th Avenue and 7th Street. She said she was sitting there Sunday at around 9 a.m. after getting kicked out of her home. That's when she says Cousins approached her and took her to a nearby building where he assaulted her. The girl was eventually able to get someone to call the police. Cousins is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Some McDonald's franchises may charge for refills
McDonald's is transitioning away from self-serve beverage stations and some locations may start to charge for refills that were once free.The fast food giant will slowly remove self-serve beverage stations – fountain drink dispensers – and be completely rid of the stations by 2032. Judge urges reprimand for Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony
TALLAHASSEE -- An administrative law judge Monday said Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony should receive a written reprimand and be required to complete ethics training after concluding that the sheriff violated state law by not disclosing in 2019 that his driver's license had previously been suspended. $2 million bond set for man accused in Miami Shores fatal crash
MIAMI - A $2 million bond has been set for a man facing several DUI charges in connection to a Sunday morning Miami Shores crash that killed a motorcyclist and severely injured his passenger.Police said it happened at around 3 a.m. in the area of North Miami Avenue and NW 108th Street. Authorities said Carlos Humberto Fabian, 41, was driving a Volkswagen Jetta when he veered off the roadway and into the southbound lanes, hitting several vehicles and a motorcycle being ridden by Bobby Jenkins and Lindsey Laquerre. The arrest report indicates Fabian had been on a date with a woman and had been drinking from approximately 3 p.m. until 2 a.m. Jenkins was killed in the crash and Laquerre sustained serious injuries. On Monday, a judge ordered house arrest for Fabian, with a GPS monitor and ordered him to surrender his passport. That is provided he posts bond. As of Monday evening, Fabian was still being held at TGK. Fabian had two private attorneys at bond court. The victim's family was also present in court.

Florida gas prices hold steady ahead of Memorial Day weekend
TALLAHASSEE - Florida drivers may get a break at the pump over the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.The AAA auto club said gas prices across the state increased 6 cents early last week, but those gains were quickly erased by the weekend. Sunday's state average of $3.45 per gallon is the same as a week ago. "Pump prices are drifting lower as a record-setting 2.5 million Floridians prepare to travel for Memorial Day weekend," said AAA's Mark Jenkins "However, ongoing geopolitical tensions could prevent pump prices from falling below year-ago levels, during the holiday weekend." Florida gas prices averaged $3.41 per gallon on Memorial Day 2023. This year, nearly 2.3 million Floridians are forecast to take a road trip for Memorial Day weekend. That's a new all-time record and nearly 106,000 more Floridians on the road than last year. The most expensive places in the state to fill up are Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Gainesville. The cheapest areas are in the panhandle.
