    2 dead in Etowah County crash

    ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Two people were killed in a crash in Etowah County Saturday, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reports.

    James E. Dayries, 64, of Baker, La., was killed when the 2023 GMC Box Truck he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree. He and his passenger, Mairi D. Scott, 72, of Knoxville, Tenn., were pronounced dead at the scene.

    The crash occurred on Interstate 59 near the 195-mile marker, about 12 miles north of Attalla. Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are investigating the crash.
