BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Five people were arrested in Tarrant last month with several machine guns and drugs recovered.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the arrests were made in the 2400 block of White Avenue in Tarrant on Aug. 29.

During the arrests, four Glock pistols that had been converted to fully automatic machine guns were recovered, as well as two AR rifles converted to be fully automatic machine guns, a shotgun and two other rifles. Two hundred fifty-seven grams of marijuana and a white powdery substance were also recovered.

“This is another example as to why we want our citizens to continue to let us know about suspicious activity,” said Jefferson County Sheriff Mark Pettway in a statement. “No one knows more about what is occurring in their neighborhood than the people who live there.  Several fully automatic weapons as well as other weapons and drugs have been taken off the streets of Jefferson County.  My number one priority is to keep our citizens safe.”

The following suspects were arrested and charged with altering ID on a firearm and first-degree possession of marijuana:

    • Odyssey Davon Amari Smith, 24, of Birmingham
    • Tobby Ornell Smith, 18, of Birmingham
    • Donta Lamar Mitchell, 18, of Birmingham
    • Roderick Lavelle Thompson, 23, of Birmingham
    • J’marcus Maurice Carey, 18, of Tarrant

Where's the FBI and ATF ? Oh, I forgot, they only go after legal gun owners. cause it's safer. It's ok for criminals to have guns of any type, but not for responsible legal owners, it's a crime . Doesn't make sense, does it ?
