UPDATE (9:51 p.m.): The Alabama Law Enforcement agency is working on the case.

In a news release, ALEA stated that the crash happened around 3:23 p.m. when a driver of a 2006 Ford F-150 struck a Mobile County Public School bus.

According to ALEA, four students were taken to the hospital but were not hurt. The bus driver and the truck driver were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

News 5 called ALEA double checking that there were four students taken to the hospital after the MCPSS told media that three students were taken and officials on the scene told us seven. ALEA told News 5 that the investigator on the scene confirmed four students were taken to the hospital.

School board Johnny Hatcher said that the Mobile County School Board was told the bus driver is not at fault for the accident.

“We got an update saying that it was a head-on collision,” Hatcher said.

News 5 called and emailed the MCPSS spokesperson if parents received a message alerting them that their child was involved in a crash, but she did not respond.

We also asked multiple school board members who could not give us a clear answer.

“I wouldn’t be able to answer that at this time to be honest with you that was not our primary concern,” Hatcher said. “Mine was the safety of the children if they were injured and the driver of the bus as well as the driver of the truck.”

ALEA is still investigating the cause of the crash. News 5 will provide updates as more information becomes available.

UPDATE (5:04 p.m.): Mobile County Public School System Spokesperson Rena Philips said three children and the bus driver were taken to the hospital.

Officials on the scene originally told News 5 that seven students were transported to the hospital.
