TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WIAT ) — United Way of West Alabama has launched its 2024 fundraising campaign.

The group is looking to raise $4.65 million throughout the year. The organization works with different nonprofits throughout West Alabama to bring better resources to the community.

“The goal is high, but so is the need,” Chairman Brock Jones said in a statement. “We all know someone who has benefited from United Way or one of its partner agencies. One day, you may even find yourself or your family in need, and you will hope that these resources are available to you—and you will be so grateful when they are. That is how so many in our nine-county area feel when life knocks them down—grateful that a United Way agency is there to help them get back up.”

As the campaign begins, UWWA encourages businesses, organizations, and individuals to come together, show their support, and contribute to the cause.

“The only way we can reach this goal and ensure that every neighbor in need is supported is by coming together as a community,” said Jackie Wuska, UWWA President & CEO Jackie Wuska said in a statement. “With inflation continuing to impact the cost of groceries, housing, and healthcare, we know that many of our donors are feeling the pinch. But it’s also true that those who were already struggling are now facing even greater challenges.”
