An early morning fire has claimed the life of one person, according to the Catskill Fire Department.
Fire crews from Catskill Fire Company responded to a fully involved fire on Lower Main Street, just before 6:30 AM Wednesday.
Fire officials say first responding crews made attempts to rescue someone trapped on the third floor.
Crews were forced back due to the intensity of the fire, just as oxygen tanks inside the building exploded, causing a collapse of the back of the building.
"We are truly saddened that the situation did not have a good ending for a member of the community. The family has been notified and we checked with the state police before posting. Please keep those affected in your thoughts and prayers" , written in a post to the Catskill Fire Department Facebook page.
Crews were on the scene for hours battling the blaze.
