Five cats that will replace your alarm clock

Cats have a knack of waking you up a little before you're ready to get up, sometimes more than a little before. They're worth it though. Here are five local Kansas City cats who would love to wake you up each morning. Already have a cat that wakes you up? Get yourself a back-up alarm.

Salvador

First up is Salvador, a cute tuxedo from The Animal Rescue Alliance. He's about five months old so is still living his best kitten life. As far as kittens go, he is on the calmer side of the spectrum (which goes from wild, on one side, to plain crazy).

Salvador is a friendly guy, making fast friends with people and animals alike. He'd be a good choice for anyone looking for a pal, no matter what other adults, kids, or pets you live with. You can learn more about him here.

If you're looking for a young tuxedo cat but Salvador doesn't quite fit the bill, The Animal Rescue Alliance has quite a few right now you can choose from.

Buttercup

Next up is Buttercup, a sleek black cat from Cats Pawjamas who is nearly a year old. Buttercup is a snuggler. Humans or other cats--she's not picky.

She can be on the shy side, but unlike a lot of other shy cats, where it might take weeks or longer to warm up to their new environments, she might just take a couple of days.

Buttercup is fine with dogs and would be good with kids too. She's a warm, cuddly girl who would charm the socks off of just about any family. You can learn more about her here.

Van

Van, from the Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter (FOPAS), had always been a stray before he found his way to FOPAS. He's about three-years-old now and ready to embrace a life of air conditioning, litter boxes, and food that's not out of a dumpster.

Van's time on the street didn't leave him unscathed. He has FIV, common among strays, which means he would need to be your only cat. Otherwise most FIV+ cats live a long and healthy life. He was also injured somewhere along the line and is scarred around his nose and mouth. Here is a better look:

Despite the rough and tumble exterior, Van has a heart of gold. He's sweet as can be and will love you without reservation.

Blue Eyes

Next up, for all of you Siamese lovers out there, is Blue Eyes. This senior kitty might take a little work for him to fully trust you. You can pick him up and pet him, but he'd rather come to you. It sounds like he has the aloof personality stereotypical of cats as a whole.

He likely has his hesitant disposition because he came from a home with lots of cats, and as a result, is more comfortable with cats than with people. Blue Eyes will just need some extra one-on-one time with their new human to form the deep bond that cat lovers so enjoy.

Centaurus

Last but not least is a cute kitten named Centaurus. If you're wondering, this is a different cat than the one that Buttercup was snuggling up with, above. If you saw that picture and wanted to recreate it, why not adopt Centaurus and Buttercup both? Spend an afternoon to pick up Centaurus in Merriam and then head to Olathe to get Buttercup. You'll be all set.

Centaurus is very much a kitten, and she will provide you everything you'd want in a kitten--cuteness, playfullness, and a fair bit of mischievousness too. You can learn more about her here.
