UMBC and three-time America East Softball Coach of the Year Chris Kuhlmeyer reached a contract extension through the end of the 2025-26 season, UMBC Director of Athletics Brian Barrio announced on Wednesday.
"The softball team's on-field success during Chris' tenure speaks for itself," said Barrio. "He is also a valued member of our department and a contributor to the strong, positive culture at UMBC. We are glad to be able to demonstrate our commitment to the team and to Chris with this extension, and look forward to building our next championship team with him."
Kuhlmeyer just completed his fourth season as UMBC head coach. The Retrievers won their fourth-straight America East championship and NCAA Appearance this season.
"It's been an amazing ride here so far at UMBC, " said Kuhlmeyer. "I am very thankful for Brian Barrio and President Valerie Sheares Ashby for allowing me the opportunity to continue to lead this program, and believing in the vision I have to keep UMBC as one of the top programs in the America East. The biggest thanks goes to the wonderful current and former student-athletes that have been the biggest part in elevating this program to new heights. The work to continue to keep this program ahead of our competitors gets more challenging everyday and I look forward to continuing to face that challenge for the foreseeable future as a Retriever!"
