CATAWBA — The 57th annual Lumberman’s Day celebration featured co-ed volleyball, horseshoes and corn hole tournaments and a special softball game between the Phillips Middle School girls’ softball team and the Lady Lumberjills from Ladysmith on June 7 at Catawba Park field.

The Phillips girls won the day with a 13-3 victory. Mel Tingo lead the way in the effort with an inside the park home run.

Coaches Blake Edwards and Josh Prohaska arranged the softball game with Ladysmith.

Six co-ed volleyball teams played a round robin followed by a double elimination tournament that lasted until 9 p.m. Jessie Denny captained the first place volleyball team.
