Beavers Shake Off Slow Start in Win Over Rockets

In its first road game of the season, the Tenino baseball team had to fight off a lethargic start, but got off and running in the later innings to pull away and stay unbeaten on the year against Castle Rock, 12-5.

The Rockets got out to an early lead on their home grass, dropping four in the second inning, before Tenino responded with eight combined runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

For good measure the Beavers dropped four more in the seventh to add some cushion and put the finishing touches on the win.

“Came out flat today, but found a way to battle through it,” Tenino coach Ryan Schlesser said. “The boys showed some toughness.”

Mikey Vasser, Carson Hart, and Cody Strawn came out of the pen to combine to allow just one run with nine strikeouts over the final five innings to headline the pitching group on the mound. Kellan Knox had another strong day at the plate, going 2 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, and Will Feltus went 2 for 4 with three runs scored.

The Beavers head out on the road again for their next game, taking on Aberdeen on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
