In this From The Archives report, former KETK reporter JD Welch spoke with John Howland who flew in a B-17 bomber on D-Day. Howland was honored with an invitation to England as a guest of honor along with several other D-Day veterans.

“I thought they said steak dinner but then I got the word that it was a state dinner in Portsmouth, England honoring D-Day veterans. There will be 75 veterans of D-Day there and I’m to be included as one of those veterans. So its quite an honor, I sure never thought I’d be having dinner with the Queen,” Howland said.

According to the Panola Watchman , Howland received the French Legion of Honor in 2015.
