UPDATE: The man found dead in Galena on February 27 is identified as 52-year-old Peter C. Wittington, of Carthage, Missouri.
An update from the KBI says Wittington last spoke with family in late 2022. A final autopsy report is pending, but foul play is not suspected at this time.

The KBI is helping with a death investigation in Galena.
Galena police requested assistance after a badly decomposed body was found in a field on the afternoon of February 27. The discovery was made near 11th and Wood, which is close to a residential area.
Officials describe the body as being a male, but say identification will take a while because of the condition of the remains. Investigators have an autopsy scheduled to determine cause of death.
