Brian Mendoza (21-2) will look to pull off another big upset when he faces Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora (20-0-1) at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

The Showtime triple-header will also include Luis “The Twist” Nunez and Christian Olivo and fast rising super lightweight Brandun Lee taking on Pedro Campa.

Mendoza’s last fight took place in November when he knocked out former unified champion Jeison “Banana” Rosario in 5 rounds. Mendoza took the fight on 10 days notice and agreed to move up to middleweight for the fight.

For the showdown against Fundora, Mendoza will move back down to the 154 pound super welterweight limit. He expects to perform even better fighting at his optimum weight class.

“Yeah, I’m going to feel even stronger dropping back to 154. I’m always staying lean year round. You don’t see me blowing up and getting fat in between fights. That is what will keep me feeling healthy at this weight,” Mendoza told BoxingScene.com.

Fundora presents a formidable challenge in both the literal and figurative sense. The gigantic 6’6” southpaw also packs power in both hands.

The Las Vegas based Mendoza is well aware of this and believes he has the skills needed to take advantage of Fundora’s mistakes.

“Neutralizing his best weapons and exploiting the holes I see in his defense to create openings for my shots is the key. Plus, his defense has flaws and he’s shown he’s there to be hit as well.
